Importance of Values

Importance of values

Values are very important to a student, because values are mostly societal this means a person’s values are based on where and the type of society they were raised in. Values are defined as the specific beliefs of what is desirable and undesirable of thoughts and conditions of being. Values are placed in two categories instrumental and terminal values, values and belief are similar because they both are both end process of evaluating our feelings and new ideas to determine rather we are going to accept them or not.
Instrumental values are when a person uses their beliefs to achieve their goals, in order to achieve those goals they had to make sure that they maintain their ethical and honorable standards, those standards are determine by society standards, many Americans even those that are from different social and economical class all have several similar values in common, this is because of America has a general or universal values which were thought to us from school, such values are to go to school, get good grades and attend college, get married and live happily ever after. These values are constantly being told to us by all the media outlets such as television, radio and print, if you don’t go to school and get good grades you will not be a success. This used to be a popular slogan back in the 1990s “don’t be a fool, stay in school”. Terminal values are use to determine how we will solve problems, some people are able to talk out there problems and then there are those who are more action prone and act instead of thinking and mapping out ways of reaching the solution. Choice can arrive from many different avenues, we can choose to use our minds to make choices or we can choose to use emotions to solve problems
