THE AMERICAN SCHOOL SYSTEM

The American School system

In 1982, the American school system was on the verge of a major facelift, the reason behind this transformation was due to the fact that most high school graduates were unable to read or do basic reading of mathematical problems. The workforce as well as the arm force were complaining to the school board asking them to better teach their students, some of the graduates there were producing were not properly thought. The American students were ranked last amongst students around the world. The statistics along with the complaints of employers and arm forces forced the senators of each state to look at this growing problem and look for different ways to rectify this situation. Some states raised their graduation requirements; others were starting to implement certain test in order to graduate or to move up to the next grade. Most states increased teacher’s qualification and pay, the most genius plan was to increase the school year. All of these school reform ideas were the beginning of the three waves of reform.

The first wave was started in 1982; this was to raise the educational standards in the schools. This was to also weed out weak performing teachers as well as students and schools to bring qualified teachers and administrations to raise standards. The second wave was to restructure the school system; this gives teachers better salary, and power to teachers, give principals power over their perspective school and keep politics out of the school. The third wave was comprehensive services, which gives certain transportations, nutrition, counseling and other necessary social and economic needs to make learning easy.

The reason why we continue to use these systems is because we see the results we’ve been looking for, graduates are now entering the workforce or college with advance generation knowledge of reading, math and English.
